You Are Bigger Than You Think You Are

There is an old saying that most people only ever use a small fraction of their capacity. Whether or not the number is literal, the feeling rings true. Most of us are living well inside our edges, running on a sliver of what we have, and calling that sliver the whole of who we are.

It makes sense. We get comfortable. We learn what we can reliably do, and we quietly stop testing the rest. The unused part of us does not disappear, though. It just sits there, waiting, like a garden plot we never got around to planting.

I find this thought hopeful rather than harsh. It means the version of you that you already know is not your ceiling. It is closer to your floor. There is so much more in you that has simply never been asked to show up.

You do not get to all of it at once. You ask a little more of yourself, in one small area, and you discover that you could. Then a little more. Each time, the edge moves out, and the size of your life grows with it.

Aspire to use more of you. Not to impress anyone, and not to grind yourself into the ground, but because there is a fuller life waiting in the part of you that you have never quite let out.

Your next chapter is waiting
